An Empowering Temporary Eternity: Why I Take a Cold Shower Every Day (5 Blizzard Benefits)

What if I told you that there's one thing you could do for at least 30 seconds each day that would have an instant positive impact on your wellness, your energy, your metabolism, & your brain? “Yeah, right. You’re going to try to convince me to get cold everyday... you’re crazy.” Yes. Yes I am. The first few times you do this it's going to feel like a temporary eternity. Every cell in your body will scream... but after this chilly "hell" you step through the gates of heaven; clear-headed & inflammation-free.

Getting a daily brain freeze actually has its merit to your health, as counterintuitive as it sounds. I am sure you have heard about the benefits of the cold before, but probably not to the level I am going to share with you in this blog.
Anyways, your momma is wrong: you don’t have to bundle up in 3 jackets to take the trash out in January to “protect” your immune system. Instead, walk out naked (if appropriate) and bask in the blizzard air. That short minute walk will launch your life into another health dimension. No kidding.
I take a 2-5 minute cold shower everyday for various reasons, mostly due to the mental/cognitive boosting benefits. It definitely takes some mental grit every single time, but it is nowhere near as extreme as when I began the first week. Making it a religion, a practice, is KEY to lessening the intensity. Cold showers are still a bite in the arsh the moment you crank that dial down, but it becomes a love-hate relationship before you know it. You’ll go through the same phase, then after a lil adjustment, it’ll become a mandatory move.
This article takes a (ice cold) deep dive into the physiology and the cold hard facts of shivering year-round. Plunge on in!

Immune System
Why aren’t we hearing about taking cold showers on the news for fighting COVID-19? Because it's free, easy-to-access and everyone is scared of the cold. Don’t be boring. Don’t be a part of the “norm” and the average Joe cult. Instead... WAKE UP YOUR CELLS! Seriously, science is proving that a little bit of cold each day greatly increases white blood cell count and can help fight off the common cold. An incredible tool everyone has available at their fingertips! Just a walk to the bathroom!

Fat Loss & Thermogenesis
Cold showers accelerate the conversion of white fat to metabolically active brown fat, especially when you're fasted first thing in the morning! Brown fat is located in internal areas around your clavicle, shoulder blades, rib cage, kidneys, and along your spinal cord. Its JAM PACKED in mitochondria, the powerhouses of your cells produces ENERGY, giving it that darker brown color. Typically, the more brown fat you have, the healthier your metabolism is. The shivering effect of the cold shower increases caloric burn as well, along with collagen-boosting effects to tighten that skin and reduce pore size!

Mental Clarity & Alertness
Getting a little shiver in daily reduces CO2 in the body which boosts oxygen retention, therefore giving you a solid rush of concentration. Simultaneously you’ll get a rush of endorphins, the feel-good hormones of the brain. But it’s definitely not the feel-good hormones related to watching YouTube for hours straight or scrolling through IG… its the good feel-good hormones.
The cold also bolsters your BDNF, aka Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor. This protein protects your neurons by helping them grow and multiply. AKA the cold makes you SMARTER!

Stress Reduction
If you’re like me, you get down in the dumps some time throughout the day. Or perhaps you get a surge of anxiety poured over you. Then, you feel trapped. Stuck. Overwhelmed. Insecure. You feel there is no other way out of it. I’ve been there, and IT SUCKS!
“Just meditate” You probably have tried that and feel it doesn’t work (News Flash: it does). “Just go on a walk” Yeah, that helps. But you still feel antsy after. “Just drink some herbal tea” Heck yeah, thats awesome! But this also takes some time to kick in and hinder those stressed-out vibes. “Just get cold for at least a couple minutes” OH SNAP THAT MAKES TOTAL SENSE!
When you cool down your body temperature, you literally cool down your heated stress. Your body begins to circulate in fresh red blood cells and process the unneeded crap. It's sooo anti-inflammatory! Anxiety, stress, and the blues increases blood pressure, so bring it down with a cold shower!

Willpower
If you’re trying to take your mental fortitude and toughness to the next level, then cold showers everyday will do it for ya. Once I built the toughness to endure a mere 2-5 minute coldy every day, everything else followed suit. After 30 days straight I was hooked. I pushed myself through painstaking workouts and tapped into my soul’s reach much much more. My interest in gaining knowledge, and applying the knowledge, increased tremendously. I began waking up earlier and earlier to put in the work: writing, business development, content creation, reading and researching. That temporary eternity kicks my ass every single time… but in the long-run it builds my booty! Don’t take my word for it, freeze for yourself.
