The Importance of Understanding Our Core Values & Non-Negotiables

If you want to look & feel your best, you have to first put the spotlight on your mindset:
What are my intentions? What are my specific goals? What can I not live without? What is the real reason I want something to go a certain way? Is this necessary?
If we ask these questions more often than not, life will become smoother than MJ’s moonwalk. There is a root to our reasoning, always. But the question is: Am I aware of my genuine core values & non-negotiables?

(BIG creds to Isabelle Wellman @isabellewellman for today's wellness blog. Give her a follow on IG. She is a great hooman being!)
In 2021, heavy distractions are everywhere. We drive past billboards displaying ads that shout (in bold) “YOU NEED ME”. We carry around small bricks that emit flashy, seizure-inducing stress lights. ‘Social’ media, politics, news, drama, and neuron-depleting nonsense smacks the back of our optic nerves every single day.
‘Dis-ease’ : uneasiness, tension, chronic fight-or-flight, weak grip on external infiltrators
These distractions can poke at your brain bubble, they can drift your colorful floatie offshore, or they can suck you in like a Dyson vacuum and dump you in the trash far away from your ambitions, core values, and non-negotiables.
Harsh. I know. But these stimulating things on the daily invite dis-ease to knock at your front doorstep.
But before I get too deep on the negatives, let's look on the brightside. Deep within each and every one of our souls there is an inner magician that will notify you—with their whimsical awareness wand— when something is off.
All you have to do is open your heart up and listen. You must dive deep into your subconscious workings to understand your core values and non-negotiables.
I like to set aside some alone time everyday, perhaps with a journal and a pen—or absolutely nothing at all— and listen.
Before we dive deep into how you can establish and recognize and apply your core values and non-negotiables in YOUR unique life, here is a basic spreadsheet of what I have come up with! I’m sure you’re aligned with these as well (~;
My Personal Top 3 Core Values:
Empathy
Acceptance
Veracity and Truth

Here are my top 5 non-negotiables and their related value:
Meditation – I meditate for a minimum of ten minutes every day because meditation not only helps me harvest a peace of mind despite the crap being thrown at me every day, but it also helps me stay focused. My first core value is inwardness and meditation.
Writing – I write every day because it is part of my lifestyle now, but it is also something I enjoy doing. Writing has become a habit and my day doesn’t “feel right” if I haven’t written something regardless of length or substance. Putting these crazy Christian Van Camp thoughts to paper help release energy and build up my purpose in life. Every night I journal right before bed as a way to support my wellness, gratitude and appreciation for all I have. My second core value is creativity and gratitude.
Connection with Family & Friends – My family and friends and community are VERY important to me so while it’s easy to get distracted in this day and age with mambo jumbo stuff and to come up with excuses, success will become meaningless to me if I lose the love and support of human connection, My third core value is community.
Nutrition & Healthy Eating – Eating more plants and superfood nutrients, such as Purium’s premium products in the Ultimate Lifestyle Transformation 30-day health-boosting, cleansing package (use code cvcwellness to save $50!). Nutrition is the foundation to a healthy, vibrant, energized life, so on days I don’t prioritize healthy eating, my holistic temple gets hit hard and it backlashes success. My fourth core value is wholesome nutrition.
Movement & Exercise – Stagnant bodily energy creates a stagnant, monotonous life and well-being. If I feel stuck in a rut mentally, once I get the physical body grooving I am on a mental mission. Taking periodic breaks from my desk and opening the hips, performing zen swings and exercising daily frees my mind. My fifth core value is movement medicine.

Now, here’s the wild rodeo list that can help you level-up your wellness faster than Mario and mushrooms:

1. Set expectations
Realistic vs Unrealistic: Am I being honest with myself?
Realistic Example: I’m open to learning about being in conflict in a healthy way. Conflict is sacred and required for bliss.
Vs
Unrealistic Example: I’m not in any conflict at all. I feel super balanced in life and there are no stressors.
List as many as you can for unrealistic and find its realistic counterpart.

2. Soul searching
Tap into your heart's feelings, not your egos. Understand where you are at in life with your family, friends and who you choose to surround yourself with most often (You become the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with!).
Ex. Do I feel...
Safe, seen, heard, respected, loved?

3. Power of intentions
Take a deep couple of breaths. Exhale the nonsense and the stressors. Inhale the passions and the loves. Truly stand by your intentions in life. Be willing and courageous to accept “no” as an answer. Become bold.

4. Create a list of core values and go crazy
Fill up your notebook or journal with all values that come to mind. I like to set a timer for 1 or 2 minutes and go off. If it comes to mind in a rush, it’s real.

5. Look over all of them, mark the ones that resonate more than others with “importance”
What are your top 10 core values?

6. Simplify
Then come down to a top 5 you want to embody and hold truth to everyday of your dope life!

7. Q’s to follow CV’s...
- how do you define your idea of a fulfilling relationship?
- if you weren’t afraid to truly claim what you desire, what would you wish for?
- who do you want to attract as a partner (obvi in a relationship but still good to go over!)
- who do you want to show up as in your relationship?
- what are you willing to do to go create a healthy and fulfilling relationship?
- how are you committed to showing up when times get tough, when conflicts arise or when old wounds get triggered?
- how do you want to love?
- how do you want to assess your boundaries?
- being led by love looks like...
- if the partner of your dreams showed up in front of you, how would you know?

8. Explore how past experiences/CV’s were driving you
- which CV’s do I tend to prioritize in relationships with my friends, family or significant other?
- which CV’s do I tend to neglect?
- in changing past partners, my choices show me that I valued...
- how did these choices impact me and my relationship?
- which CV’s continue to be important to me?
- which CV’s am I not willing to compromise?

9. Embodiment
Look at the top 5 core values you wrote down earlier...
